Odd news: mooning over a pair of pants
By Carla Chadwick of WordPlayBlog.com
All over the country, lawmakers are taking stands against droopy drawers. Being deemed unchic years ago by the title character in the movie Clueless apparently didn’t do enough to stem the tide of underwear — and sometimes more — that has been peeking out of the back of people’s pants for over a decade. Now towns large and small are initiating ordinances that would enforce varying penalties for showing your underwear in public.
On the surface (and probably more for older Americans than for the young), it makes sense that we should all wear pants that actually cover our backsides. But when is a pair of pants not just a pair of pants? Answer: When the fad originated from the hip-hop counterculture. The argument rages in some circles whether these bans are just an attempt to suppress a segment of society that happens to be different.
Because no one can look into the hearts and minds of everyone who supports this movement, however, it’s not really possible to say why each person favors it. Especially since the issue isn’t quite as cut-and-dry as it probably was when the fad started. Baggy pants may have hailed from the ghetto, but over the years gangsta fashion has been co-opted by all races and economic levels. And flashing backsides aren’t always about achieving a ghetto look. I witnessed a well-dressed woman bending over to look at a low shelf at a supermarket in upscale Boca Raton, Fla., revealing the back of her expensive thong and a good portion of skin. I don’t think she had hip-hop aspirations; I just don’t think she just was aware of what was going on back there.

What’s the big deal?I actually find some guys who sport the look sexy although too low is just plain nasty!at the end of the day it’s very hard to influence people’s choice of dress.Especially those that dress thus to fit in.
